Farthing Wood: The Adventure Begins
Long-Whiskers is one of the seven otters to escape the foxes attack on the otters. She, Lame Otter, Sleek Otter, Slow Otter and three other female otters escape from the carnage and they travel across the grassland together to a trout farm, where three of them are killed; one by a motorcylist, another because of Slow Otter's jealously of Lame Otter and the other by a dog.
She hides in the grass from the dog with the other surviors. She is the first to notice that Lame Otter is hiding from her and her two companions. In the morning she moves on with Sleek and Lame Otter, without knowing Slow Otter is following them close behind, but not close enough to be detected.
She soon takes refuge in a log with Sleek and Lame Otter and leaves with them when they see the savaged remains of Slow Otter after he is struck by a train. After they discover that they are the last otters, she and Lame Otter go seperate ways from Sleek Otter after they become mates, and for some time they are oblivious to Sleek Otter's death.
As soon as Long-Whiskers and Lame Otter return to The Trout Farm they are chased by humans and they barely escape to an apple orchard. But their joy is short lived as they are chased by humans once again, this time into a nursing sow badger's set, where Lame Otter is fatally injured and dies, forcing her to move on by herself.
She hides in some grass a few days later when Stout Fox comes looking for her, and she runs into a road thinking that he came to kill her, but after she is struck by a large truck, she makes peace with him before she dies from her injuries. She dies before her cubs are born and as the last of the Farthing Wood Otters.
